The studio is a place of refuge. Growing up as a dancer, I turned to the studio for release, discipline, focus, calm, and self-discovery. When I began conceptualizing my own studio space, I knew I wanted it to feel inherently safe—but “safe” is not synonymous with “easy.” The Studio is a space to challenge yourself, to afford yourself enough vulnerability to really grow. We enter the Studio with a willingness to be vulnerable—with a willingness to work and a willingness to fail—and we emerge better because of it. This spirit transcends the physical space: the concept of our practice is true whether you’re physically in the room or working with me online.

SERVICES

THE METHOD:

At the Studio, we will train using a high-intensity, low-impact, full body workout that concentrates on slow and controlled movements. The exercises challenge slow-twitch muscle fibers, encouraging fat burn and muscle lengthening. Importantly, this methodology provides a safe workout that is kind on our joints.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

After an initial assessment, I design sessions curated to the client’s specific goals and needs. The workout is intense—there’s no way around this. It challenges your body and the mind and forces you to “get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” I offer private and semi-private sessions, all of which are 50 minutes long. All levels of experience are welcomed at The Studio.

I also provide stretch sessions, which are not to be confused with yoga. Stretching is as essential as the workouts themselves, and I guide these sessions with hands-on adjustments, props, and demonstrations. We need to grant ourselves space for repair, soothing our muscles after strenuous workouts, travel, and—frankly—life. The aim of a stretch session is, ultimately, to afford the client an opportunity to restore.

Pre/Post Natal Training:

Over the course of the past eight years, I’ve had the honor of working with women in various stages of their motherhood journey. This has been particularly meaningful work, as pregnancy can feel foreign, and many women express feeling disconnected from their physical selves. I love to help mothers rebuild this body connection, and I focus on creating a bespoke experience catered to each mother’s specific experience and needs.

Each session emphasizes pelvic floor strengthening, minimizing and preventing diastasis recti, and building upper-body and posterior strengthening. This focus targets the areas most essential for new moms, helping them feel prepared and strong for whatever the birthing and post-natal journey might bring.

MORE ABOUT AMANDA

On paper, I’m Amanda Rey (she/her): a Lagree-certified, pre/post-natal certified professional holistic wellness coach. I danced professionally in both NYC and Boston, and I’ve been a fitness and movement professional since 2012. I hold a master’s degree in behavioral analysis. I am a postural therapist, and my expertise lies in strength, form, and movement.

I believe we’re a great deal more than what is written on our papers.

Movement has long defined my life—I was a child gymnast and ballerina, and I continued dancing throughout high school, college, and my postgraduate years. From the time I was young, I’ve noticed my brain works a little differently. I tackle problems from a “big picture” perspective, focusing on end-goals and broader scopes; I’ve always sought to understand the “whys” that actuate human behavior, working to unearth purpose and intention in our collective psychologies and passions. In fact, I moonlight as an archaeologist—my longtime passion side-piece and a literal manifestation of my fascination with this “unearthing” work—and I continue to work on various dig-sites in Spain. I’m also fascinated by the brain—I have synesthesia, so I see color and feel temperature when listening to music—and I believe in the power of understanding self and mind as an integral facet in greater health and wellness goals.

My ethos lies in cultivating accountability and developing individualized programming: there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to our wellness, and I work with each client with the intention of understanding who they are, what motivates them, and what sustains their unique behaviors in order to actualize meaningful, long-term change.

the Studio Chat

“Amanda has helped me through every phase of my life (literally!) and in a multitude of ways. When I was engaged, we worked out together in person and she got me in the best shape of my life for my wedding. During Covid, we began doing virtual workouts together and we continued to train 3x a week during my pregnancy (up until the day I delivered!). Now, a year post-partum, we continue to train together virtually. Her wealth of knowledge, incredibly kind and easy demeanor, and killer workouts are the BEST. I am lucky to call her my trainer, but also my friend- I actually don’t know what I would do without her!” - A.W., 33, she/her
